Chais Suzanne, Corbi`eres 1999
£15.95 (France)
This vineyard has succeeded to win all manner
of recognition over the last few years, unlike
others in the same area. Suzanne is a girl
from Llanrwst, and she and her husband Peter
are breaking new ground with their wines which
are excellent & juicy, full of dark fruit,
and shows their commitment to new world attitudes
in their vineyard and winery. The 1999 is
classic Corbières exhibiting very up-front
fruit flavours in an easy-drinking style,
albeit with a marked personality. A blend
of hand-picked, very low-yielding Syrah, Grenache
and old Carignan vines. It was carefully
vinified and aged in tank to enhance the aromas
and to preserve the inherent fruit quality.

Bruno Paillarde, Premiere Cuvee, Reins ,
May 2002
£49.95 (France)
“A straw gold colour and very fine bubbles.
Its delicate hue comes from the use of a high
percentage of Chardonnay and of the first
pressing only. The fine bubbles are due to
a very noble raw material, a perfectly controlled
temperature in the cellar - cool and steady
- and to very long ageing in bottle. The first
aromas reveal the citrus character of the
Chardonnay: lime and grapefruits. Then red
fruit aromas come out; redcurrant, raspberry,
morello cherry - typical Pinot Noir. On leaving
the wine to open up, candied fruits, even
exotic fruits of Pinot Meunier, appear with
aromas of banana and pineapple. The palate
is lively, thanks to the low dosage, respecting
the wine’s authenticity. The nose is confirmed
by the first taste; citrus, almonds, toasted
bread and “brioche” - but also redcurrant
jelly, then dark fruits - cherry, fig and
blackberry. On being aerated and warmer, the
wine reveals the light taste of plum and pear.
The palate is full, quite long with a very
clean finish.” - Bruno Paillard
